CELEBRATING A DECADE DOWNTOWN
Ten years ago, on March 16, 2002, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art opened in the Donald W. Reynolds Visual Arts Center. Visitors arrived long before the doors opened, lines wrapped around the block, and the new museum and its first exhibition, Dale Chihuly: An Inaugural Exhibition, received enthusiastic public support. Believe it or not, it’s already been a decade since the Oklahoma City Museum of Art welcomed its first guests to the downtown Donald W. Reynolds Visual Arts Center, and the Museum is excited to say thank you to the community whose support paved the way for its many successes with events throughout the year.
The Museum’s 10th Anniversary Celebration culminated on its anniversary weekend, March 16–18, 2012, with three days of free admission, films, and programs, with funds provided by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and Oklahoma Natural Gas, a division of ONEOK. The celebration continues throughout 2012 with special events and exhibitions, including ILLUMINATIONS: Rediscovering the Art of Dale Chihuly and the Museum-organized, 10th anniversary exhibition, FUSION [A New Century of Glass]. On view June 14 through September 9, 2012, FUSION features glass sculptures and installations from the twenty-first century that embrace the diversity and depth of the human experience. The exhibition is cocurated by the Museum’s Curator of Collections Alison Amick and Associate Curator Jennifer Klos.
