The Series, Eugene A. Bavinger

Second Floor

March 1 - Nov. 11, 2007 Oklahoma Artists: The Series will present the Museum’s collection of seven paintings by Sapulpa native Eugene A. Bavinger. A respected artist and teacher, he served the University of Oklahoma in many different roles for over twenty years.  These works reveal Bavinger’s own unique style and painting method. He painted with acrylic gels on a glass surface, placing the canvas on top of the finished work. Once the paint dried, Bavinger peeled the canvas from the glass, resulting in a smooth surface. A highlight of the exhibit is Bavinger’s Expansion Series IV, which not only reveals the smooth texture of his work but also the difficulty in creating interesting color variations while working in reverse.
