Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic is a career retrospective of Kehinde Wiley’s work, including his exploration of the European tradition of portraiture. Adopting the format used by old masters such as Titian, Van Dyke, Ingres and Manet, Wiley replaced historical subjects with young African-Americans sporting fashionable, urban gear: puffy down jackets, sneakers, hoodies, jerseys and baseball caps. This exhibition is open through September 10.

“Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic” is organized by the Brooklyn Museum and made possible by the Henry Luce Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
