Cosponsored by the OKC Downtown College, these courses are available for college credit through Oklahoma City Community College and the University of Central Oklahoma, respectively. Students may audit credit courses for no grade or credit on a space-available basis. Regular credit tuition and fees still apply. Students auditing a class are expected to have the same prerequi­sites completed as students enrolled for credit. Residents of Oklahoma, 65 years of age or older, may audit a course at a much reduced price contingent upon available classroom space. Senior citizens requesting the reduced rate should enroll in person at the OKC Downtown College Office, 4th Floor of the Downtown Library, 300 Park Avenue. This course is a chronological study of the aesthetics and cultural issues of modern American Art from 19101960. The course will examine political and artistic movements that helped shape and communicate the experience of modern American society from the first decade of the twentieth century through the Cold War. Graduate students will work with the instructor on additional selected reading and research. Visits to the Museum’s special exhibition American Moderns, 1910–1960: From O’Keeffe to Rockwell are included.

Students will examine the permanent collections and special exhibition galleries of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and attend lectures and discussions on related topics. They will explore the behind-the-scenes operations of the Museum and will visit other local museums as well. Each student will research and make oral and/or written presentations about how the collections in various types of museums reflect human values and cultural traditions.
