Tired of painting with the same old media? Need some excitement in your paintings? Join us as we discuss how to collage and combine traditional painting with found objects, such as paper, sand, grout, or even paper towels!

BASKET WEAVING
Saturday, June 30, 10 am–noon
Patricia Morgan

Explore basic techniques, as spokes and weavers become beautifully rounded forms. Each basket will be unique to individual participants. Depending on the size of works created, most students will take home at least two completed projects. Reed will be soaked in warm water for pliability, so dress for mess!

CLAY SCULPTURE

Debbie Langston

In this fun and creative class, students will learn all the basics about sculpting—shaping, building, carving, and molding—with clay to make bowls, vases, lids, plaques, and a three-dimensional animal or abstract shape. The clay sculptures can be picked up at the Museum, after they have dried and been kiln fired.

THE ART OF PASTELS
Sunday, July 15, 2–4 pm
Debbie Langston

In this class, students will receive step-by-step instructions on basic pastel drawing techniques, including how to blend colors and make strokes ranging from delicate to highly expressive. Then, we’ll apply our skills to create a stunning still-life image.

COLORED PENCIL TECHNIQUE
Sunday, July 22, 2–4 pm
Debbie Langston

Colored pencil drawing provides students the opportunity to practice color mixing and blending without the mess of paint. In this class, you will learn a variety of techniques using colored pencils to render a finished drawing, giving attention to detail and building a foundation for future drawing and painting classes.

VIVID WATERCOLOR
Saturday, August 4, 10 am–noon
Patricia Morgan

Study the colorful and opaque glass forms of Dale Chihuly and gain inspiration for a finished watercolor painting. Following a demonstration and refresher on the basic skills of color mixing, wet-on-wet washes, and dry-on-wet washes, students will use creative brushstrokes to produce an original work on paper.

MIXED-MEDIA DRAWING
Sunday, August 5, 2–4 pm
Lacye Swilley-Russell

Mixed-media drawing can be very expressionistic! Go beyond charcoal or pencil in this class, as we combine and explore many methods of drawing media, such as collage, paint, or even shoe polish. This class will make you see the common household object as a drawing tool.

FAUX GLASS FUSION
