These classes have been designed to foster your child’s independent learning and social interaction with other children; children should feel comfortable working without a parent or guardian present. Children must meet the minimum age requirements for each class to participate. Cost per child is $10 members/ $15 nonmembers (materials provided). Maximum enrollment is 12 students in each class.

DRAWING WITH DAD (WITH PARENT)

Spend Father’s Day doing something extra fun and unique! Starting with a big, blank piece of paper, you’ll work together using a variety of drawing media to create a treasured art piece and memento of your special day.
BASKET WEAVING

Explore basic techniques, as spokes and weavers become beautifully rounded forms. Each basket will be unique to individual participants. Depending on the size of works created, most students will take home at least two completed projects. Reed will be soaked in warm water for pliability, so dress for mess!
THE ART OF PASTELS

In this class, students will receive step-by-step instructions on basic pastel drawing techniques, including how to blend colors and make strokes ranging from delicate to highly expressive. Then, we’ll apply our skills to create a stunning still-life image.
FAUX GLASS FUSION

Learn about contemporary glass artworks as we visit the exhibition FUSION [A New Century of Glass]. Back in the classroom, we’ll experiment with real and faux glass techniques to create an original work of art to take home and share.
VIVID WATERCOLOR

Study the colorful and opaque glass forms of Dale Chihuly and gain inspiration for a finished watercolor painting. Following a demonstration and refresher on the basic skills of color mixing, wet-on-wet washes, and dry-on-wet washes, students will use creative brushstrokes to produce an original work on paper.
PORTRAIT DRAWING

Receive instruction on how to draw a portrait with correct placement and proportions of features. We will practice our skills, while working with chalk pastels. Topics will include shading and adding highlights and shadows to our drawings to create a three-dimensional effect.
CLAY SCULPTURE

In this fun and creative class, students will learn all the basics about sculpting—shaping, building, carving, and molding—with clay to make bowls, vases, lids, plaques, and a three-dimensional animal or abstract shape. The clay sculptures can be picked up at the Museum, after they have dried and been kiln fired.
LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Learn how to paint the different parts of a landscape, such as trees, sky, grass, and mountains. Following a demonstration, students will make a painting using various techniques for creating beautiful landscape art.
