JAMES C. MEADE FRIENDS’ LECTURE SERIES presents Cathy Whitlock

Join the Oklahoma City Museum of Art Thursday, February 23, 2012, for a fascinating lecture by author and design journalist Cathy Whitlock, who will pay tribute to the unsung heroes of the movie business: production designers, art directors, and set decorators. While their work is often underappreciated, these “architects of illusion” work closely with the director and cinematographer to visualize and create believable, self-contained worlds within each film. As part of OKCMOA’s annual Oscar Tune-Up program, Whitlock’s lecture also will address this year’s Oscar race for Art Direction. Continue reading

Exhibition Preview Lecture by Beth McKillop, deputy director for the Victoria and Albert Museum

Beth McKillop, who was appointed Deputy Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in November 2010, joined the Asia Department as Keeper in 2004, later becoming Director of Collections, holds degrees from the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, and was a British Council scholar at Peking University in 1976. OKCMOA only U.S. Venue for Princely Treasures exhibit from the Victoria and Albert Museum

Oklahoma City, OK—The Oklahoma City Museum of Art will present Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600-1800 from the Victoria and Albert Museum on February 15 through May 13, 2012. This is the first partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which is the only U.S. venue for this exhibit. Previous venues include the National Gallery of Korea, Seoul, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth. Continue reading

Inspired by the exhibition Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600-1800, opening February 15-May 13 at the Museum, the evening includes dancing to live music to the JetSet Kings, dj by Chameleon Entertainment, cocktails, an art raffle of more than 50+ local artists, and, of course, gourmet omelettes prepared by area chefs and restaurants.
