In this black comedy of middle-aged masculinity gone awry, Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist) is a recent divorcee who becomes obsessed with a vintage fringed deerskin jacket that begins to exert an uncanny hold on him.
His heart broken and finances frozen, Georges embarks on an odyssey—with the jacket as his Sancho Panza. Alone in his hotel room in a sleepy, French Alpine village, Georges converses with the jacket which, through Georges, answers back. When hotel bartender Denise (Adèle Haenel, Portrait of a Lady on Fire) asks Georges what he does, he replies that he’s a filmmaker—after all, he does own a camcorder. Denise, it turns out, is an aspiring film editor, practicing her craft by re-editing popular films. Convinced they are kindred spirits, Georges enlists Denise as a collaborator on a movie that will document his newfound life’s mission.
Director Quentin Dupieux | 2019 | In French with English subtitles | 77 minutes | NR
