Gallery features permanent collection works as well as loans from Art Bridges Foundation, others
OKLAHOMA CITY (July 24, 2026) — The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) announces From Pop to Minimalist Art, a single-gallery installation on the Museum’s third floor opening today, July 24. Highlights include two loans from Art Bridges Foundation: Andy Warhol’s Coca-Cola [3] from 1962 and Keith Haring’s Self Portrait from 1985.
Warhol and Haring’s works are examples of the Pop Art tradition of using text, mechanical reproduction, and commercial symbols to transform images from advertising, popular culture, and everyday life. Coca-Cola [3] marked the beginning of Warhol’s signature Pop Art style and is among his earliest depictions of the Coca-Cola bottle, an image that would become a recurring subject throughout his career. Haring’s Self Portrait showcases the artist’s familiar graphic linework while presenting a rare self-portrait. Other movements featured in the installation include Op Art, the Washington Color School, Hard-Edge painting, and Minimalism, along with works by contemporary artists in dialogue with these postwar art movements.
“Visitors will get to see the works of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, who were friends and collaborators, side by side in this new gallery,” said President and CEO Michael Anderson, PhD. “Together with the Museum’s signature collection of 1960s art and beyond, this gallery tells a more complete story how art fundamentally changed after the revolutions of gestural art presented in one of the Museum’s nearby galleries.”
From Pop to Minimalist Art will feature works by other well-known artists, including Ed Ruscha, Claes Oldenburg, and Ellsworth Kelly. Two works by Roy Lichtenstein, one of which is from OKCMOA’s permanent collection and has most recently been featured in the gallery Maritime Art, Beach Scenes, and the Seascape will also be on view; the other is on loan from the Oklahoma State University Museum of Art. Making their OKCMOA debut are new acquisitions by artists Mona Hatoum and Eva LeWitt.
This important series of loans from Art Bridges began last fall with works by Richard Diebenkorn and T.C. Cannon entering the galleries, and in January, works by Njideka Akunyili Crosby and Archibald John Motley Jr. were introduced. These loans can also be seen this summer on the Museum’s second and third floors. The last of the seven loans, a large painting titled La ofrenda (The Offering) by Diego Rivera, will be on view beginning in November.
