Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) stars as Willie T. Stokes, a hard-living and drinking criminal lowlife who travels the country with his professional thief sidekick, Marcus (Tony Cox). Posing as a mall Santa and one of his elves respectively, the pair lands in suburban Phoenix where they plan to knock off a shopping center during the Christmas season. There, Willie becomes entangled with a cheery one-night-stand (Lauren Graham), and a clingy latchkey preteen Kid, who is convinced that he is the real Kris Kringle. Directed by Ghost World‘s Terry Zwigoff, Bad Santa, presented here in its newly restored, uncut form, may be the ultimate grown-up Christmas film–overflowing as it does with sex, violence, and an unceasing (and unerringly shocking) stream of profanity. This one certainly isn’t for the small ones, or for the offendable of any age. For everyone else, Bad Santa is among the funniest and the most rewatchable entries into the Christmas film canon.
