Winner of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival, Museo tells the unbelievable true story behind the largest art heist in Mexican history. Bored with their aimless suburban lives, thirty-something veterinary students Juan (Neruda’s Gael García Bernal) and Wilson (Leonardo Ortizgris) plan and execute a daring Christmas Eve robbery of the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. Armed with a trove of precious Mayan, Mixtec and Zapotec artifacts, they sneak away from their holiday obligations and set off to fence the loot, only to find that committing the perfect crime is more complicated than they thought. Playing homage to the some of film history’s greatest heist films, award-winning director Alonso Ruizpalacios has crafted a wildly entertaining hybrid of stylish crime caper and slacker road movie that subtly deepens into an insightful meditation on cultural heritage, realism and truth.
