The 1980s led to an expanded range of artistic interests for Reed, particularly the exploration of the relationships between painting, printmaking, and photography. With his “Quad” photo constructions, Reed reintroduced natural and human-made forms into his art, combined with a continued interest in strictly formal principles such as color and geometry. Playing with juxtaposition and mirror-imagery, Reed contrasts photographs of natural and human-made forms, such as flowers and vintage cars, with his own abstract design, creating a visual dialogue between the unusually paired imagery.
