Glass and bronze
Best known for his large bronze-cast sculptures of root systems, Steve Tobin focuses on translating and distilling forces of nature into artistic forms. Tobin’s Bust appears to emerge from a mound of dark and loamy soil. Here, he leaves the glass unpolished, making the material look more like clay or plaster. The glass’s rough texture gives the torso the appearance of a long-lost sculptural fragment or artifact, recently unearthed by archaeologists.
