Visual Description: This is a three-piece evening gown consisting of a black beaded bolero jacket, a beaded black sash, and a floor-length black skirt. The jacket is cropped and has strong, structured shoulders and short sleeves. The beads on the top and the sash are golden yellow, jade green, and black. The sash is tied around the waist of the mannequin. Around the neck of the mannequin is a silver necklace in the shape of a bow.
Extended Label Text: In The Lady Eve, Barbara Stanwyck plays a female gambler who transforms into a British noblewoman. Head designed dual wardrobes for these two characters, creating twenty-five different costumes, each one a statement of advanced 1941 fashion. Designing specifically for Stanwyck’s body, Head raised the waistline and made the belts wider in the back, creating a flattering line for Stanwyck’s long torso and lower behind. Stanwyck became an instant sex symbol and trendsetter upon the premier of The Lady Eve. Afterwards, she claimed that she had Head’s name written into every contract, regardless of the studio.
