Over a Dozen Living Sculptures on view at OKCMOA during Art in Bloom

One weekend only, April 8-10

On view for one weekend only, Art in Bloom will feature floral sculpture interpretations of works from OKCMOA’s permanent collection, crafted by designers from the Oklahoma City community. These living sculptures will be displayed in-gallery and throughout the Museum April 8 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., April 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 10 from noon to 5 p.m. Art in Bloom is presented by Joan Payne.

“This year April showers bring Museum flowers,” said Kimberley Worrell, OKCMOA’s development director. “Seeing our galleries in bloom is a completely unique experience that surprises me every year. The designers are incredibly creative in their interpretations, materials and methods. I cannot wait to see what they come up with this year. We are thankful to our donors and florists for their support for this year’s event.”

Art in Bloom is free for Museum members and children 17 and under, $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $5 for military. Tickets include admission to the entire Museum and are on sale now at okcmoa.com.

2022 will again feature 13 sculptures by 13 local florists including: A Date with Iris, Curbside Flowers, Joyous Blooms, Kasse Duffy Designs, Madeline’s Flower Shop, New Leaf Florist, Poppy’s Garden Floral Design & Events, Rootstock Floral Design, The Fleuriste, The Flower Truck OKC, Trochta’s Flowers and Garden Center, Wicked Bloom Design and Wrong Number Floral Co.

In addition to the floral sculptures on view in the galleries, the Museum is hosting a workshop, lecture and film to round out the weekend:

  • Poppy Palette Workshop, Friday, April 8, 6:30-8 p.m. $33 for Members | $45 for non-Members (includes admission to Art in Bloom). Join us for a gallery-inspired painting workshop! Amanda Harmer, Manager of Family and Access Programs, will lead a discussion in the Still Lifes gallery learning about “Parrot Tulip” by Lowell Nesbitt before heading to the studio classrooms for a guided painting activity.
  • The Plight of Pollinators Lecture, Sunday, April 10 | 11 a.m.-12 p.m. $5 for Members | $17 for non-Members (includes admission to Art in Bloom). Learn about the plight of our pollinators and what you can do to help! Oklahoma County Master Gardener Program’s Cindy Schaefer will present short clips of our wonderful pollinators in action and review free resources for starting your very own pollinator garden.
  • Museum Films Presents The Rose Maker, Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10. This sparkling French comedy stars celebrated actress Catherine Frot (Marguerite) as an artisanal rose grower attempting to turn around her struggling family business.

Workshop and lecture programming is sponsored by Terri Cooper and Frank and Bette Jo Hill. In addition, the first 100 children (ages 10 and under) that visit Art in Bloom will receive a “Little Gardeners” Activity Kit, sponsored by Jacqueline Miller and Marcie Wise.

Additional support for Art in Bloom is provided by Amy and Roy Bankhead, Peggy and Del Boyles, Peggy and Nick Duncan, Joan Frates, Kirk Hammons, Vicki and David Hunt, Mrs. James C. Meade, Allan R. Montgomery, In Memory of Billie Lee Nees, Amalia Miranda Silverstein and Linda and Steve Slawson. The Selfie Station is sponsored by Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership and brunch is sponsored by Nancy Payne Ellis.
