Free Admission Days at OKCMOA Begin this Month

Oklahoma City Museum of Art to offer free admission each month thanks to Art Bridges.

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 9, 2024) – The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) will kick off its monthly free admission days on January 14. Thanks to the generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, visitors of all ages will receive access to Museum galleries at no cost on the second Sunday of each month for the next three years.

“Access for All will allow us to share the wonderful things happening at the Museum with many more people,” said Bryon Chambers, the Museum’s head of education. “We welcome our community to enjoy the first Access for All free admission day on Sunday and experience a robust set of traveling and permanent collection galleries, including Preston Singletary: Raven and the Box of Daylight and First Look: New to the Museum.”

The first Access for All day will also mark the opening of the Museum’s new family space, located between Admissions and the theater lobby in the area that the Museum Store originally occupied.

One side of the space will focus on art-related activities developed by Museum educators, and the other will function as a free-play space for crawling and newly walking visitors and respite for their grownups.

The free admission days schedule through June 2024 is as follows:

  • January 14
  • February 11
  • March 10
  • April 28
  • Moved to the last Sunday in April to coincide with the closing date of Preston Singletary: Raven and the Box of Daylight as well as to offer another free art-focused experience during Festival of the Arts
  • May 12
  • June 9

Children 17 and under always receive free admission to OKCMOA. Access for All will provide adults—including college students, seniors, and others—this benefit once a month. In addition to the other exhibitions mentioned, visitors will be able to view Chihuly Then and Now: The Collection at Twenty, Paul Reed: Works on Paper, Cynthia Daignault: Oklahoma, and a wide array of permanent collection galleries with focuses on studio glass and the Museum’s WPA collection, all at no cost.

In addition to offsetting revenue in order to provide free admission, the grant will eventually support Spanish translation labels, new touchable artworks in the Museum’s permanent collection, and other avenues of accessibility in the Museum.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art was one of 64 museums nationwide and the only Oklahoma institution to receive funding from Art Bridges Foundation, the national arts nonprofit founded by philanthropist Alice Walton. The initiative aims to increase access to museums across the country and foster engagement with local communities.

Visitors can reserve tickets ahead of time in person, over the phone, or online by visiting www.okcmoa.com/buytickets and entering discount code AFAJAN24. For more information about Access for All, please visit www.okcmoa.com.
