Museum Films in November 2023

Museum Films’ November schedule opens with a series of dazzling Taiwanese martial arts masterworks, including wuxia classics by King Hu and Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This month’s lineup also features 2023 Cannes Palme d’Or winner Anatomy of a Fall, Argentine Oscar submission The Delinquents, a visionary fable from the makers of Koyaanisqatsi, a rediscovered 60s comedy, and fascinating documentaries about Gustav Klimt and The Rolling Stones.

Blades & Ballet: King Hu and the Heroines of Wuxia is sponsored by the Taiwan Academy in Houston, Taiwan Ministry of Culture, and Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute.

King Hu’s signature blend of elegant compositions and dazzling fight choreography is on full display in this profoundly influential wuxia landmark, which sees a group of heroic swordsmen converge on the Dragon Gate Inn to defend the imperiled children of an army commander.

A Taipei movie palace closes its doors with a farewell screening of King Hu’s Dragon Inn in this wry and moving celebration of movie-going from acclaimed director Tsai Ming-liang.

A marvel of virtuosic craft and sweeping grandeur, King Hu’s visionary wuxia epic follows a fugitive noblewoman on a quest for revenge who joins forces with a shy scholar and a group of skilled Buddhist monks.

In his follow-up to A Touch of Zen, trailblazing martial arts filmmaker King Hu brings together an all-star female cast, including Hong Kong cinema stalwart Li Li-hua and Angela “Lady Whirlwind” Mao, in this lively blend of action, comedy and intrigue set in 13th-century China.
