Oklahoma City Museum of Art awarded Oklahoma Arts Council grant
OKLAHOMA CITY (September 28, 2026) — The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) today announced that its Making Memories program has been awarded an Oklahoma Arts Council Creative Aging Partnership Grant for fiscal year 2027. OKCMOA is among a select cohort of organizations whose programming Oklahoma Arts Council supports through this funding.
Making Memories is a program designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and their caregivers. The program connects participants with art—and with one another—through conversation and creative artmaking inspired by the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions.
The Oklahoma Arts Council grant supports both monthly site visits to four partner adult day centers and quarterly visits to the Museum.
“We are thrilled to have Oklahoma Arts Council’s support for a program that helps us reach people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to have meaningful arts experiences like these,” said Neely Simms, Senior Programs Manager. “Research shows that creative aging initiatives help improve health outcomes for older adults, and we’re proud to offer a program that supports such positive impacts.”
Support for creative aging is among the ways the Oklahoma Arts Council, as the official state arts agency, is leading the arts sector in leveraging the arts as a proven tool to boost health and wellness outcomes. Creative Aging Partnership Grants are made possible with funding from the Oklahoma State Legislature, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET).
Registration for the next on-site Making Memories session on Monday, December 14, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., can be found at okcmoa.com/events.
