Inspired by Archibald John Motley Jr.’s Bronzeville at Night, this beginner-friendly class invites adults to explore memory, place, and community through art. The class will begin in the galleries with a 20-minute discussion of Motley’s vibrant scene, using the work as a starting point for reflection and inspiration. Participants will then create a pastel drawing of a meaningful gathering place from their own life—real or imagined—using color, atmosphere, and expressive mark-making to bring the memory to life. Guided instruction and simple techniques make this class accessible to all experience levels.
Participants are welcome to bring a photo for reference. If you would like to have a printed copy of your reference photo, please send it to nsimms@okcmoa.com following your registration.
This class is designed for adults 18+. All supplies will be provided.
If you have questions regarding the class or registration, please email Senior Programs Manager Neely Simms at nsimms@okcmoa.com.
Bonus! Registrants ages 21+ are welcome to stop by the OKCMOA Bar before class and bring a drink to enjoy a relaxed paint-and-sip experience.
