Join regional scholars and artists in a lively discussion of art in Iran and across the diaspora in conjunction with OKCMOA’s exhibition Kiarostami: Beyond the Frame. Abbas Kiarostami died in 2016 leaving a significant legacy in the cinema and beyond. We will consider how his influence extended beyond film and photography on the current generation of Iranian artists both at home and abroad. We will also discuss the difficulties and challenges Iranian artists confront today and consider the ways in which they’ve created artistic forms that speak to and reimage the experience of contemporary Iranians.
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Michael Anderson, President & CEO of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
Panelists will include:
Kaveh Bassiri, poet
Pouya Jahanshahi, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Oklahoma State University
Dr. Amy Malek, the endowed Chair and Director in Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies at Oklahoma State University
