The affecting second feature from actress-turned-filmmaker Jeanne Herry (Number 1 Fan), In Safe Hands takes us deep inside the world of the French social assistance services where the fate of one baby boy exposes the conflicting conundrums faced by many women – those giving up their babies and those desperate to have their own. When baby Theo’s birth mother surrenders him for adoption, child protection officer Karine (Sandrine Kiberlain, Life of Riley), entrusts Theo to veteran foster father Jean (Gilles Lellouche), who will watch over the newborn until a suitable home can be found. Meanwhile, Alice (Élodie Bouchez, The Dreamlife of Angels) finds herself closer than ever to realizing her longtime dream of motherhood. Anchored by impeccable performances from a seasoned ensemble cast, In Safe Hands combines meticulous documentary-style authenticity with a profoundly humane worldview. We’re proud to offer a special advance preview of this Lumière Award-winning drama.
