Kiarostami Film Retrospective

October 15, 2022
- April 9, 2023
+ View Event on Facebook

Screening on Thursday evenings in conjunction with OKCMOA's multimedia exhibition Kiarostami: Beyond the Frame (October 15-April 9), this retrospective film series highlights the poetic beauty, resonant humanism and formal experimentation of Iranian artist Abbas Kiarostami's work in cinema. | This series is presented in memory of Jeanne Hoffman Smith and in partnership with Janus Films.

All Events

Spanning the entirety of Kiarostami’s nearly five-decade filmmaking career, this retrospective series encompasses both the director’s early short films for children and his midcareer masterpieces,  like the celebrated Koker Trilogy and Cannes Palme d’Or winner Taste of Cherry. It also includes experimental features, like 24 Frames –  featured as part of OKCMOA’s Beyond the Frame exhibition – that bring together his work in cinema and photography, as well as later romantic dramas like Certified Copy that were filmed outside of Iran.

Join us on Thursday evenings in the Noble Theater to experience the extraordinary scope and vision of one of the late 20th and early 21st century’s most influential and beloved filmmakers. Tickets to Kiarostami Film Retrospective screenings are free for OKCMOA members and with same-day museum or Art After 5 admission. Visit the admissions desk or the theater box office to purchase tickets.

It's April Fools Day! 🃏 OKCMOA's 2015 exhibition "Intent to Deceive" played the ultimate trick on museum-goers around the world. Several ingenious art forgers during the 20th century were profiled in this exhibition, representing some of the most infamous scandals of our times. The exploits of Han van Meegeren, Elmyr de Hory, and Eric Hebborn shook the art world, garnering each of them worldwide notoriety. John Myatt and Mark Landis have been in the news for their prolific and stylistically diverse art frauds, landing one in jail. Included in each forger’s profile were their original works, personal effects and ephemera, photographs, film clips, and representations of the material and techniques used to create these convincing artworks. Created to commemorate “Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem,” a 1999 exhibition in Israel, the “Jerusalem Cylinders” were inspired by the jagged walls of the Citadel in the Old City. To create the crystal forms, large rectangular slabs of glass were cast, then broken into pieces with a chisel and hammer. As a final step, the crystals were carefully fused onto vessels, which required the diligent choreography of a highly skilled team.
