A tender love triangle with a ghost in the middle, The Cakemaker has been a New York Times and Los Angeles Times critics’ pick, and a breakout success in art-houses and Jewish film festivals across the country. Tomas, a young German baker, has been having an affair with Oren, a married Israeli man who frequently travels to Berlin on business. When Oren dies in a car crash at home, Tomas travels to Jerusalem in search of answers. Assuming another identity, Tomas meets and begins to work for Oren’s newlywed wife, Anat, in her small kosher café. With Tomas’s baked goods improving the restaurant’s fortunes, he comes to fill an ever-greater role in the widow’s life, in and out of the kitchen—while stopping at nothing to hide his true identity. Romantic love, religious faith, and most of all, beautifully filmed food, this LGBTQ crowd-pleaser checks all the boxes.
