Museum Films in November 2021

Museum Films kicks off its annual Awards Season Preview in November with a pair of International Oscar submissions and an early Best Actress frontrunner. A charming and thought-provoking tale of love in the age of artificial intelligence, German submission I’m Your Man stars Berlin Film Festival Best Actress winner Maren Eggert and Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens. The official submission from Kosovo, Hive is a deeply moving true story of resilience and friendship that swept the World Cinema awards at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Elevated by a magnetic Oscar-caliber performance from Kristen Stewart, Spencer is an intimate biographical portrait of Princess Diana from the acclaimed director of Jackie and Neruda.

A highlight of the 2021 Berlin Film Festival’s cutting edge Encounters section, The Beta Test spins a razor sharp satire of 21st century Hollywood from acclaimed indie writer-director Jim Cummings (Thunder Road). Another Berlin Film Festival standout, haunting 16mm documentary The Two Sights explores Scotland’s remote Outer Hebrides and the folk tradition of second sight once common to the islands. Filmed over a period of twenty-five years, November’s second nonfiction feature Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time chronicles the extraordinary life of a literary giant.

Last but not least, this month’s rediscovered classic comes courtesy of a new 4K restoration from Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project. A lost masterwork of pre-revolutionary Iranian cinema, Chess of the Wind is a richly textured gothic thriller about a wealthy family undone by greed and suspicion.
