Led by a luminous performance from the eternally radiant Juliette Binoche (the Oscar-winning star of Chocolat and The Clouds of Sils Maria), Let the Sunshine In is the witty and sensuous latest from acclaimed French auteur Claire Denis (White Material). Binoche plays Isabelle, a Parisian divorcĂ©e who hasn’t given up hope of finding all-consuming romantic love in her middle-age years. Isabelle’s search, however, proves anything but simple as she trades one (often married) lover for another. Building her narrative around this standard romantic comedy premise, the great Denis—one of France’s finest filmmakers—transforms Let the Sunshine In into something much more resonant and poetic. Denis’s is a cinema of texture and touch, as sensual in its surface detail as it is in the stories of women she brings to the screen.
