Thursday, October 16 | Chihuly-Inspired Macchia Bowls
Create a mini Macchia inspired by artist Dale Chihuly’s Macchia series in Dale Chihuly: The Oklahoma Collection. Visitors will achieve the look of glass by applying glass paints to Dura-Lar and adding final touches using paint pens to achieve a macchia (Italian for “spotted”) effect. Staff will then use a heat gun to mold the work of art into its final form, after which it can be adhered to a black Plexiglas base, reminiscent of Chihuly’s work displayed in the first-floor galleries.
Friday, October 17 | Rodin Figures in Wire
Explore the expressive power of the human form in this Drop-In Art activity inspired by Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Three Shades. Drawing inspiration from Rodin’s use of form and shadow, visitors will use pliable wire to sculpt simplified human silhouettes, focusing on gesture, posture, and repetition.
Saturday, October 18 | Abstract Pastel & Watercolor Resist Paintings
Drawing inspiration from our Postwar Abstraction galleries, visitors will use oil pastels and liquid watercolors on heavyweight watercolor paper to create their own expressive works of art.
